Steven Barrymore attended graphic arts colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the California College of the Arts (CCA) to study photography; while attending CCA he was introduced to the Zone System. While he shoots all his current work in color, black and white was the basis for his understanding of the elements and style of a photographic image. His early work was film based, relying on Leica and Nikon systems, shooting mostly with transparency media. His current choice for photographic media is digital. He photographs with a hand-held camera and documents the subject primarily on intuition. Steven lives in Northern California.
