Would Tesla Be Proud?
written by Steven Barrymore
Society is turning green and not with envy — with environmental conservation devices and systems shrinking in size, offering a bigger bang for the buck.
Solar Aero, a New Hampshire based alternative-energy organization has developed a wind turbine generator. And this is not a towering, bird chopping blade machine. It is a compact unit based, according to Solar Aero company website, on a 1913 Nikola Tesla patent for a bladeless fluid turbine (see Wikipedia Tesla Turbine for details).
Solar Aero’s completely enclosed model avoids drawbacks of bladed turbines such as noise, radar interference, visual pollution and wildlife injuries — while retaining high efficiency ratings. (1)
When I saw this wind turbine device on Solar’s website, it looks like a squirrel cage fan used in HVAC systems. I could see these wind turbines being part of the roof structure on residential homes, lessening the residential need to be on the power grid.
These wind turbines appear not to be available yet pending further funding. However, if they do become available — I think they will take off.
